Rennes Métropole film festival continues to explore the city's playground. Travelling's editorial signature is evident in the city's cinematographic performances and urban cinematography.
The heart of the event is centred around its Urba[Cinema] section, which focuses on invitations to travel in innovative narrative forms and works where cinema meets other arts. A competition of French-speaking short films and a selection of feature films for a national preview in the presence of their authors are aimed at revealing the latest news from young authors and the latest works of today's great filmmakers. The second part of Comics in the[City], dedicated to the on-screen representation of American comic strip cities, will be dedicated to the Marvel label! Clair obscur invites you to waltz in the Habsburg capital, indeed, Travelling will have the ambition to beat the measure of Viennese passions. Vienna is a capital eternally nostalgic for its past greatness, but well anchored in a Europe of which it remains, to a greater or lesser extent, the geographical centre. A great European cultural capital until the beginning of the 20th century, the Danube city has retained an incomparable brilliance and reputation as an artistic metropolis. Both trendy and retro, City Museum and laboratory of modernity, Vienna oscillates between microcosm and openness, between tradition and cosmopolitanism.
From now on, the Elephant d'Or competition will be accessible to young children in kindergarten through a dedicated programme of short films. Junior will explore the theme of the forest, the founding element of the classic adventure film and fantasy cinema, from Robin Hood to Mia and the Migou to The Legend of the Forest of Osamu Tezuka.
Within the Music & Film section, Fargo, the virtuoso funeral comedy of Joel and Ethan Coen, will be revisited by the dreamlike and aerial music of the Rennes trio Fragments. GaBLé will combine animation cinema and electronic folk music in a concert film based on the ComiColor series by Ub Iwerks, made up of animated films in colour, often inspired by stories (Sindbad the sailor, Tom Pouce, Les Musiciens de Brême…).
Travelling is a reflection of contemporary creativity with Digital Mutations, which will allow us to live new cinematographic experiences with a selection of innovative works and to question the role of the cinema in the cross-media process.
À l'Ouest ! will demonstrate Clair Obscur's territorial and professional roots by hosting previews, meetings, seminars and master classes in the presence of professionals.
