DE LA RIVIERE BASSE AUX HAUTEURS DE CASTELNAU

1 – Après avoir quitté la place médiévale et être passé devant la place du XIX ème siècle, empruntez la route de Barbat et découvrez rapidement la chaîne des Pyrénées et le Pic du Midi de Bigorre. 2 – Après l'église de Jû-Belloc, tournez à droite pour franchir l'Adour sur un étroit petit pont et entrer dans le quartier de Mazères, remarquable par son église fortifiée. 3 – Une petite route vous permet de cheminer entre les champs jusqu'à Herès. 4 – Vous verrez sur votre droite une église, les ruines d'un donjon et des maisons au sommet de la colline: c'est le but de votre périple, Castelnau-Rivière-Basse. 5 – Après avoir traversé la route de Tarbes à Bordeaux, vous la longez pendant 2 km avant d'entreprendre une montée ombragée. Entre les arbres vous distinguez à droite la silhouette imposante du Château Montus au milieu de son vignoble, et à mi-côte à gauche le Château Perron: vous êtes entrés dans le domaine du Madiran. 6 – Au sommet, encore un petit effort pour rejoindre le château d'eau, puis vous parvenez au village de Castelnau-Rivière-Basse dont vous longez les arènes avant de découvrir l'ancien village: les centres d'intérêt ne manquent pas, les vestiges du château, l'église, la halle, mais ne manquez surtout pas la superbe vue sur toute la région derrière l'église. 7 – Après la descente, vous empruntez pendant quelques mètres la grande route avant de tourner à droite sous un porche et de rouler vers le nord. A Préchac vous passez devant le château Armagnac, et si vous n'avez pas encore vu le lac, un petit détour s'impose avant de regagner Plaisance.

1 – After leaving the medieval square and passing in front of the 19th century square, take the Barbat road and quickly discover the Pyrenees chain and the Pic du Midi de Bigorre. 2 – After the church of Jû-Belloc, turn right to cross the Adour on a narrow bridge and enter the district of Mazères, remarkable for its fortified church. 3 – A small road allows you to walk between the fields to Herès. 4 – You will see on your right a church, the ruins of a keep and houses on the top of the hill: this is the goal of your journey, Castelnau-Rivière-Basse. 5 – After crossing the road from Tarbes to Bordeaux, you follow it for 2 km before starting a shady climb. Between the trees you can see the imposing silhouette of Château Montus on the right, in the middle of its vineyard, and halfway up the hill on the left, Château Perron: you have entered the Madiran domain. 6 – At the top, a little more effort to reach the water tower, then you reach the village of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse where you walk along the bullring before discovering the old village: there is no shortage of places of interest, the remains of the castle, the church, the market hall, but above all don't miss the superb view of the whole region behind the church. 7 – After the descent, you take the main road for a few meters before turning right under a porch and driving north. At Préchac you pass the Armagnac castle, and if you haven't seen the lake yet, a small detour is necessary before returning to Plaisance.
