In 1994, following too frequent flooding, the municipalities of Ste-Anne-sur-Brivet and Drefféac decided to cleanse the Brivet.
And there, to the great astonishment of the inhabitants, the Brivet, a quiet little river, delivers its treasures. Ceramics, canoes, human and animal bones, weapons, tools, flint, millstones, fragments of spears, axes, swords, wooden dishes, oars, paddles, parts of pontoons … are extracted from the mud. The archaeological furnishings were not evenly distributed over the entire course of the Brivet River, which shows that the populations were rather settled near the promontories and in the vicinity of the crossing sites, notably at Catiho, Ile Biron, My and the Port. Dating was done using different techniques showing that the most densely represented periods were the late Neolithic (3000-2000 BC), the Final Bronze to the Roman conquest (1000-50 BC) and the Middle Ages (600-1000 AD).
